Week at Smith
Monday, April 22, is Earth
Smith has always honored the
annual Earth Day celebration, a nationwide event that has
paid homage to the planet on which we live since April 22,
Smith students, faculty and
staff, are hosting a , including
a Bike Kitchen bike ride around town, information tabling
outside the Campus Center, workshops and tours of key areas
of sustainability on campus.
Still to take place are the
the Smith cogenerational power plant. 10:30
a.m. Meet at CEEDS, Wright Hall
Music festival, featuring sounds
by Smith a cappella groups Groove, the Vibes and the Smiffenpoofs.
Also featuring a Trash’n Fashion. Pizza
and ice cream served. 5-8 p.m., Chapin
Join the Botanic Garden in planting trees for the spring.
3 p.m., Lyman Conservatory
at the MacLeish Field Station. Students are invited to bring
a lunch and head to the field station in nearby Whately,
Mass., for a presentation on research and design projects,
hike the trails there. Hosted by the Smith Club of Franklin
County. 11 a.m.
Address by Annie Leonard, expert on sustainability and environmental
health. Leonard’s address will be followed by a screening
of the animated documentary film The
Story of Stuff, produced
by Leonard, which exposes connections between environmental
and social issues. Hosted by the UMass Amherst Campus Sustainability
Initiative. 7-9:30 p.m., Bowker Auditorium, Stockbridge Hall,
University of Massachusetts, Amherst
