Smith Chamber Music Society Continues Concert Series

Members of the Smith Chamber Music Society continue the year’s Chamber series with concerts scheduled on Sundays, Jan. 27 and Feb. 10 at 4 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m., in Sweeney Concert Hall, Sage.

The Smith Chamber Music Society gathers colleagues and friends dedicated to performing chamber music from baroque to modern. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Programs are as follows:

Sunday, January 27, 4 p.m.

Hindemith, Schumann and Franck

  • Franck Piano Quintet
  • Schumann Bilder aus Osten for piano, 4-hands
  • Hindemith Sonata in C major (1939) for violin and piano.

Joel Pitchon and Sarah Kim, violins; Ronald Carbone, viola; Volcy Pelletier, cello; Judith Gordon and Alissa Leiser, piano.

Sunday, February 10, 4 p.m.

Schoenberg and Brahms Sextets

  • Schoenberg, Verklaerte Nacht (Transfigured Night)
  • Brahms, Sextet in Bb Major, Op.15

Joel Pitchon & Joana Genova, violins; Ronald Carbone & Ariel Rudiakov, violas; Volcy Pelletier and Ronald Feldman, cellos.

Sunday, February 17, 3 p.m.

Romanticism, Expressionism and Revolution

  • Webern, Langsamer Satz for string quartet
  • Strauss, Capriccio for string sextet
  • Stravinsky, Sacre du Printemps (Rite of Spring) for two pianos.
