Do
you remember a standout teammate? Did you have a favorite
coach or team at Smith?
Alumnae like Ann Miller ’96,
perhaps, who is a member of the 1,000-point club in the sport
of basketball? Or Barbara King ’83, who was the NCAA diving
champion as a senior? What about Jane Slocum Deland ’69,
who was a leader in the world of squash?
These are just a
few of the people that have been nominated for the inaugural
class of the Smith Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame.
The seeks your nominations for athletes, coaches,
administrators and teams that have left their mark on athletics
at Smith. Nominations for the first class of inductees will
be accepted them until January 15, 2012.
Nominated athletes
must have been graduated from Smith for at least 10 years.
There are two categories for athletes: one from the varsity
era, which encompasses the period of 1971 to 2002; and the
pre-varsity era, which includes the rich era of sporting
tradition up to 1971.
Coaches and administrators must
be five years removed from employment at Smith, while teams
must have had an outstanding record or accomplishment such
as, but not limited to: qualifying for the NCAA Championship,
winning an ECAC Championship, or an undefeated season.
