Alumnae
Singers to Tour Russia, Baltics
Last year, they sang “Salutamu!” Next year, “Dobredyen.”
The Smith College Alumnae Chorus,
which spent 10 days in Sicily last summer, combining forces
with a Sicilian orchestra and men’s choir, will travel to Russia
and the Baltic states for its summer 2013 international concert tour.
The Alumnae
Chorus comprises alumnae from all the college’s singing groups,
including Glee Club, Chorus and Chamber Singers, from classes
dating back to 1947. The 2013 trip is open to any Smith alumna,
as well as friends and family. Registration ends September

Under the
baton of Jonathan Hirsh, director of orchestral and choral
activities, the Alumnae Chorus will make stops in Riga, Latvia;
Talinn, Estonia; and St. Petersburg, Russia, during a tour
from June 21 to July 2, 2013.
Participants will have a chance
to explore the major historic and cultural sites of each
destination––both
Riga and Tallinn have medieval city centers that have been
named UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and St. Petersburg is
popularly known as the “Venice of the North”––in
addition to singing two concerts with local men’s choirs and
orchestras.
