Burton Hall, part of the college's
Clark Science Center cluster, is receiving major renovations,
including replacement of the building's numerous windows
and roof, and reconstructed corridors, as well as structural
upgrades. The project is part of a summer-long renovation
of the science center that also includes Sabin-Reed, Bass,

Burton Hall
Burton
Hall, one of the college's original science buildings,
is undergoing renovations as part of the Clark Science
Center project.
Extensive
scaffolding was constructed and affixed around the
entire building to enable access to all windows and
the roof.
Every
window in Burton Hall has been replaced with energy
efficient windows that retain the same architectural
style.
It will take some 14,000 slate tiles
to replace the Burton Hall roof, part of the summer
renovation.
Burton
roof tiles are being replaced with 10" x 20" pieces,
called "north country black," from
New England Slate Company, Poultney, Vt.
The Burton
project includes a complete reconstruction of the entryway,
elevator doors and stairwells, as well as a new tile
floor, installed last summer.
The
Burton stairwell will be adorned with a new rug, to
be installed after construction is complete.
Peter Gagnon,
director of capital construction at Smith, oversees all
capital projects.
