Smith.edu Moving to Content
Management System
The top tier of the Smith Web site — including
the home page and the sections on Academics, Student LIfe and About Smith — has
moved to a database-driven content management system, or CMS.
While the visual layout of these pages has not changed
significantly, the technology behind them has moved from hand-coded,
static pages to layouts organized by templates and content maintained in a database.
This new system, based on the
open-source Drupal platform, will, over time, facilitate visitor interactivity, the
ability to share content, integration with social media, search engine optimization
and more. And it will also make it easier for those who update or administer sites
to manage content, allowing them to make changes, add or remove images, create sophisticated
Web forms, and develop new pages.
As a result of this migration, you may notice
some changes to the site; some content has moved, and some small sites have been
merged into larger ones. This is necessary due to the structure of a CMS, which depends
on a logical relatonship between “parent” and “child” pages.
In this transitional phase, you may also find some broken
links or bookmarks that no longer work. Please let us know of any problems by sending
e-mail to website@smith.edu.
Thank you for your patience while we remodel! |
