A
Note of Thanks from Ginny Farmer ’88
Ginny Farmer, Smith graduate,
1988, and mother of Paul Farmer, founder of Partners
in Health,
recently wrote a note of gratification to Heather Stone ’10
and her fellow members of the student org Global Action Against
Poverty Everywhere (G.A.A.P.E.), for their efforts in coordinating
the upcoming Voices
for Haiti benefit, co-sponsored by Smith
College on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m., Academy of Music,
downtown Northampton.
Greetings Heather and my
fellow Smithies,
Thank you so much for inviting
me to join you in your efforts to raise money for Partners
in Health. Needless to say, I have a great love for P.I.H.,
its founders and its quest for social justice and improved
healthcare for all throughout the world. I have been many
times w/Paul to Haiti and the need is SO great there, especially
after the devastating earthquake. I applaud you young philanthropists
for taking time out of your busy lives to care for others;
if I remember correctly, this is a crazy time w/end of semester
and graduation approaching!
Smith literally and figuratively
saved my life by redirecting my grief after the death of
my young husband in 1984. It was Dr. Paul, then a student
at Harvard, who told me about the Ada Comstock prgram. He
subsequently accompanied me to the beautiful Smith campus
for my initial interview and the rest, as they say, is history.
So I have a special place in my heart for Smithies, for you
fabulous young women who seek an exceptional education at
Smith and a concrete direction for your future. Do all you
can to help others...IT IS THE ONLY COURSE. Live well, work
hard to complete your studies, then go out and change the
world. YES, YOU CAN!!!
With great admiration and a
huge thank you to y'all.

class of '88
