Carol
T. (Durso) Sarokhan ’73
I am a member of the class
of 1973, and I had the pleasure of taking Vertebrate Zoology
with Professor Horner in 1971 or 1972. She was an amazing
person: a citizen of the world. She loved to tell us about
her travels gathering specimens, including the story of the
flying fish in the South Pacific jumping right into her boat.
She would lovingly handle some of her prized creatures and
exclaim, "Isn't it beautiful?" She especially liked to show
off her sturgeon. Her enthusiasm was contagious, even as
we struggled through a difficult dissection of our turtles
or minks (minus the fur). With her passing, Smith College
and the Biology Department have lost a legend. |
