Nosotras Panel: Perspectives on Latinas and Feminism

View an event flier.

Nosotras, the student Latina organization at Smith, will host a panel discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 24, that explores Latinas and feminism. The panel, titled “Race and Feminism: Latina Perspectives,” will take place from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in Neilson Browsing Room.

Panelists include scholars who have researched and investigated Latina feminists from several approaches. They are Dorothy Mosby, associate professor of Spanish at Mount Holyoke College, and three faculty members from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst: Mari Castañeda, associate professor of communication; Ann Ferguson, professor emerita of women’s studies and philosophy; and Priscilla Page, professor of theater and curator of New WORLD Theater.

“Latina feminism is a topic that many are discussing,” says Dior Vargas ’09, social chair of Nosotras, who helped organize the panel. “The goal of this event is to bring many perspectives together to honestly speak about Latinas, where they have diverged from feminist movements and where they have met.”
