Groups Sing for Fellow Student
The Vibes, the Groove, Smiffenpoofs, the Noteables and the
Smithereens will gather on Sunday, April 6, to perform in
turn at the second annual Harmonies for Healing benefit concert.
Harmonies for Healing
is student-organized concert to raise funds for local charitable
organizations in honor of Maggie Worthen ’06, who
suffered a stroke on campus in May 2006 and remains in
a coma. The concert will raise funds for Whole Children
Inc., a South Hadley organization founded by parents of
children with special needs.
The concert, which is
sponsored by Duckett House (Worthen’s
campus residence) with assistance from Talbot House residents,
will take place at 12:30 p.m. in Helen Hills Hills Chapel.
“We continue to honor Maggie by hosting a benefit
concert every spring,” said Rachel Lerner-Ley ’08,
a Duckett housemate. “This year we chose Whole Children
Inc., and the donations will go under Maggie’s name.”
Special guest pianist Clifton Noble, accompanist in the
music department, will also perform in the concert.
Whole Children Inc. was created to fill the gap in services
provided by local communities. The center provides enrichment
programs for children of all abilities outside of school
hours, including classes in social skills, gymnastics, art,
music and yoga, as well as participation in soccer, basketball,
golf, tennis, swimming and outdoor adventure.
For those unable to attend the benefit but who wish to make
a donation, contact Arianne Abela, ext. 6630, firstname.lastname@example.org.
