THE BASICS:
What do you do at Smith?
I schedule space for all kinds of college
events and "direct traffic" for the questions
that come up about the myriad aspects of events; I'm also the systems administrator
for the R25 space scheduling program and online events calendar.
How many years have you been at the
college?
Seven.
What is your busy season?
Um, the entire academic year!
NOW THE FUN STUFF:
Who gets the most face time with you?
Really, it's my computer because I seem to communicate
through it almost entirely these days!
What are you
reading now?
Sadly, right now only magazines that are pretty much fluff stuff.
Who are your role models?
Although it sounds cliché, I have to say that
my mother, who at 81, is expanding and challenging herself in ways that would scare
the heck out of most people half her age, is enormously inspiring to me.
If you suddenly had two hours of free time,
what would you do?
I'd probably either spend it outside, if a nice day,
or if not, do online research on modern and contemporary art.
What is your favorite
wall hanging at home?
For a long time it's been Maxfield Parrish's "Hilltop
Farm"--one of the best examples
of his "Parrish blue" that I love. It's also such a New England scene and
I first was drawn to it when I was living in California.
What annoys the heck out of you?
Pretentiousness and posturing.
If you could live during any period
in time and in any place -- when and where?
I really am happy to be here now, but I would love to
be able to spend a day and a half to experience first-hand what life was like during
the 1950s; I always hear such conflicting accounts of that time, and I came on
board too late to get a sense of it.
Who does the work around your abode?
My partner and I have it worked out so that she does
the outside work, which I hate, and I do the indoors work, which I...am better at.
Is there any time in your life you
wish you could do over?
Again, happy to be here now!
What did you do before you came to
Smith?
For most of the 20+ years before Smith, I worked at various support-level positions
in the medical field, which was both very hard and excellent experience for any type
of work!
What single piece of
advice would you give to graduating Smithies?
Widen.
