Face Time

Alesandra Sandin ’07

Where are you from?

Hanover, NH. It's a small town best known as the home of Dartmouth College.

Did you always know you wanted to come to Smith?

Yes. My sister was an Ada (Class of 2000), and we came to see her Rally Day skit. Seeing all the powerful women on campus made me realize that I wanted to be one of them. I applied ED, and didn't think twice.

Who gets the most face time with you?

It's a toss-up between my friends and my books.

What are you reading now?

Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon. It's a book set in Scotland about a woman who travels back in time to the Jacobit uprising.

What is your favorite movie?

Hands down, The Little Mermaid.

If you suddenly had two hours of free time, what would you do?

I would go to the gym and clean my room. Laundry would also be a good thing.

What is your favorite wall hanging in your room?

I spent my junior year in St. Andrews, Scotland, and had the time of my life. I now have a watercolor of the town hanging next to my bed.

Do you vote?

Absolutely. In fact my absentee ballot is sitting right here.

If you could live during any period in time and in any place, when and where?

I would want to live during the reign of Henry VIII. I am fascinated with his life and marriages. I would have wanted to live just to see it all the palace, of course!

What do you think about the weather in New England?

I love the weather...but then again, I was born and raised here.

Name a decision you regret.

I try not to have regrets. I believe everything happens for a reason, and the decisions I make can lead to positive outcomes, even if I don't see that in the short-term.

What were you known for in high school?

I was a big nerd. I wear glasses and have curly hair. Plus I always took the honors courses and made honor roll.

What single piece of advice would you give to President Christ?

I think President Christ could be a more visible member of the Smith community. It would be nice to see her drop by a house for lunch or dinner once in a while just to talk with students candidly about their experiences.
