Campus
School Joins Effort to Collect School Supplies
The Smith College Campus School
is joining a nationwide effort to supply children affected
by Hurricane Katrina with backpacks filled with school supplies.
“We’ve Got Your Back”
is a project organized by Do Something, a national organization
that encourages community service among young people, to rally
the nation’s schools, and families with school children,
to donate useful school supplies or personal items. Deborah
Haas, the Campus School nurse, is organizing the school’s
participation.
The Campus School project will
take place in two phases. First, the school will collect backpacks.
Families with children in the Campus School should send the
extra backpack (preferably new or slightly used) with their
child to school on Friday, September 16.
Phase two of the project will
involve filling the backpacks with supplies collected by each
class.
For Smith employees who do not
have children in the Campus School but would like to donate,
fill a backpack with school supplies and drop it off at the
Campus School any time before September 30.
Easthampton Savings Bank is teaming
with the Red Cross to raise money to ship the stocked backpacks
to those who need them.
