Glee Club
The Glee Club is open by audition to women in all of the upper
classes, including Ada Comstock scholars. The group rehearses
twice weekly and performs at all of the college's choral concerts,
including convocation, Montage, Autumn Serenade, and the commencement
concert. They also tour in the U.S. during the year, performing
at schools, colleges and universities on the East coast and
in the Midwest. The group performs a diverse repertoire, including
the premiere women's choral pieces from Western art music,
new works commissioned specifically for the group, and jazz,
contemporary, and folk music. Each spring, men's glee clubs
from colleges such as Harvard, Rutgers, the Naval Academy,
the University of Michigan, and the University of Virginia
collaborate with the Glee Club for a performance of a major
choral work that have included Carmina Burana, Beethoven's
Ninth Symphony, and Brahms' German Requiem. For more information
about the Glee Club, please the group's conductor, Jonathan
Hirsh, at jhirsh@smith.edu or visit the Glee Club website.
