    WorldCat, OCLC's bibliographic database, is universal in subject scope and includes materials, published and unpublished, in all formats dating from the 11th century to the present. It has over 41 million records for items held in thousands of libraries throughout the United States and to a more limited extent, in European collections. It is updated daily.
  • RLIN Bibliographic File (Mediated access is available by appointment with the Art Librarian)
    Like WorldCat, the RLIN Bibliographic File is universal in subject scope and embraces all formats of materials. It includes over 27 million titles and provides access to the specific holdings of many major art research libraries that do not contribute records to OCLC. It is updated daily.

It contains all books in print and about to be published, as far as six months in advance. Also includes titles declared out of print from July 1979 to the present."
  • Worldwide Art Books
    A catalog of over 35,000 "international museum and gallery catalogues published from the 1960s to the present" and "American trade and university press art books published since 1992, including forthcoming titles" available from this vendor located in Ithaca, New York.

  • Census of Antique Works of Art and Architecture Known in the Renaissance (WWW version)Available on Smith Campus Only
    The Census provides information on more than 20,000 Renaissance works of art documenting over 10,000 antique monuments illustrated by 30,000 photographs. The database links Renaissance sources, the antique works they document, locations (modern, Renaissance, and antique) of works and documents, dates, names, and modern bibliographical citations. Smith users may get the password to use this WWW version of the database by asking at the reference desk in any one of the four Smith libraries.

    Click on "Subscribers: Login Here" in the uppper right corner of the page to search the full-text, illustrated electronic version of this encyclopedic source providing "45,000 articles on every aspect of the visual arts--painting, sculpture, graphic arts, architecture, decorative arts and photography--from prehistory to the present day."

  • Art Abstracts Available on Smith Campus Only
    The enhanced electronic version of Art Index, this service covers all aspects of the visual arts, providing cover to cover indexing of over 300 periodicals published throughout the world. The electronic version covers 1984 to the present, the print version 1929 to 1993 (Art Reference Z5937.A78). It is updated monthly. Abstracts are provided for records added after 1994.
  • Art Index Retrospective Available on Smith Campus Only
    Art Index Retrospective cumulates citations from volumes 1 to 32 (1929 through August 1984) of the printed version of the index (Art Reference Z5937.A78). This backfile of Art Index includes articles from more than 420 periodicals and provides international coverage for all aspects of the visual arts.
  • ARTbibliographies ModernAvailable on Smith Campus Only
    ARTbibliographies Modern provides access to information about late 19th- and 20-century fine arts, decorative arts, design, and photography in periodicals (500 regularly indexed, 2000 selectively indexed), dissertations, exhibition catalogs, and books published throughout the world. The electronic version covers 1974 to the present and is updated twice a year. The print version covers 1969 to 1996 (Art Reference Z5935.A77). Abstracts are provided for all records.
  • A&H Search Available on Smith Campus Only
    The electronic version of Art and Humanities Citation Index, A&H Search covers all arts and humanities disciplines. The database of almost 2.1 million records includes materials published from 1980 to the present as well as older material cited in these publications. It regularly indexes 1,300 journals and is updated weekly.
  • Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals Available on Smith Campus Only
    Covering architecture and related fields including architectural sculpture, city planning, and landscape architecture, Avery Index provides regular access to approximately 1,000 periodicals. The RLG Eureka database linked here covers all printed volumes of the index from the 1930s (with selective coverage dating back to the 1860s) to the present. The database is updated daily.
  • BHA: Bibliography of the History of Art Available on Smith Campus Only
    BHA provides access to literature on the post-classical western visual arts published in over 3,000 periodicals and in books, exhibition catalogs, doctoral dissertations, Festschriften and other collected essays, selected art dealers' catalogs, and conference publications. The RLG Eureka database linked here also incorporates all volumes of RILA: International Repertory of the Literature of Art (1975-1989) and volumes for 1973 to 1989 of RAA: Repertoire d'Art et d'Archeologie. Printed volumes of RAA covering 1957 to 1972 are available at Art Reference Z5937.R4. Abstracts are provided for most records.
  • Design and Applied Arts Index Available in Smith Libraries Only
    Design and Applied Arts Index provides annotated references to almost 100,000 articles, news items, reviews, obituaries, and illustrations published in approximately 450 design and craft periodicals from 1973 to 1998. It is international in scope and covers all aspects of design including graphic, industrial, interior, fashion, textile, theater, and multimedia design, architecture, design management, and design and craft education.
  • DYABOLA: RealKatalog DAI Rom (CD-ROM Version) Available in Smith Libraries Only (WWW version) Available on Smith Campus Only
    DYABOLA: RealKatalog DAI Rom is the electronic version of Archäologische Bibliographie, the subject and alphabetic catalogs of the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut and the standard bibliography of material on classical art and archaeology. It provides regular access to over 1,100 journals and series and includes citations to books and essays in Festschriften and other collections published throughout the world. Hillyer holdings of the printed index are 1932 to 1993. The electronic form covers 1956 to the present and is updated annually. Smith users may get the password to use the WWW version of the database by asking at the reference desk in any one of the four Smith libraries.
    DYABOLA: Guide to Searching the Database, DYABOLA: Short Reference, and DAI Subject Catalogues, Electronic Version Manual provide more detailed descriptions of the database and guidance for new and more experienced searchers.

    "The Index to 19th-Century American Art Periodicals indexes 42 art journals published in the US during the 19th century, providing nearly complete coverage of journals from this period. The Index describes the entire journal contents--articles, art notes, illustrations, stories, poems, and advertisements--and offers information on popular culture and industry, artists and illustrators, painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, architecture and design, exhibitions and sales, decorations, and collecting. The file includes 27,000 records."

    "The Royal Institute of British Architects' British Architectural Library is the largest and most comprehensive resource in the United Kingdom for research and information on all aspects of architecture.
