WELLNESS EVENTS

2009 Wellness Week - April 20-24, 2009 - schedule

The Libraries second annual Wellness Week has been scheduled for the week of April 20-24, which has also been declared "No Meetings Week." See the schedule, and event descriptions.

Wellness Wednesdays - June - August 2008

Continuing on the momentum gained from Wellness Week in April 2008, Wellness Wednesdays continued the fun all summer long. Activities took place on Wednesdays in June, July, and August of 2008. See the Wellness Wednesdays schedule.

2008 Wellness Week - April 7-11, 2008

Thanks to Chris Loring and the Library Leadership Team, a variety of fun and healthful activities were scheduled during the week of April 7-11, which was also declared "No Meetings Week." See the list of events and the schedule.

LIBRARIES' RELEASE TIME FOR WELLNESS

Staff are reminded that they can use up to one hour of Wellness release time to attend Smith related activities including paid ESS classes (yoga, aerobics & conditioning, and water aerobics), and Get Fit Smith activities. Of special interest to staff are the personal training hours offered at Olin Fitness Center. Strength training is an important component of an exercise program for everyone!

Please be sure to clear your release time with your supervisor, and fill out and submit the Release Time Record Keeping Form.

For more information about the Libraries' release time policy, please see below.

Release Time Policy

  • Non-Exempt Libraries Staff are permitted to take a maximum of one hour of release time per week to participate in qualified Smith wellness activities (see list below).
  • Exempt Libraries Staff are strongly encouraged to participate in these same programs by adjusting their work schedules.
  • All staff will need the approval of their supervisor in scheduling release time or in adjusting their schedule. Staff must fill out the Release Time Record Keeping Form, and submit it to their supervisor each month in advance.
  • Supervisors are encouraged to make time for wellness activities available to staff - whether through release time or a schedule adjustment - while ensuring that their area runs smoothly, with adequate coverage and no one unduly burdened.

  • Walk the library or climb the stairs in Neilson from level B to level 4 Core (70 steps)
  • Visit My Daily Yoga website
  • Forbes Library: Borrow/return a book, visit the upstairs art gallery, browse the new book shelves
  • Find a quiet spot and meditate
  • Do exercises at your desk - Deskercize!
  • Walk to Capen Garden on Prospect Street
  • Take a nap
  • Visit the Smith Chapel Wellness Initiative website
  • Walk to the Japanese tea house by Paradise Pond, and sit for 5 minutes.
