SSW Placement: New York

Important reminder for Smith College School for Social Work students:
When you arrive at your placement, be sure to ask whether your agency has its own library or whether it can arrange library privileges for you at an area library. If not, then use the listing(s) below to identify area libraries and their policies regarding access and borrowing. Note that all policies described below are subject to change.

The information below is provided for Smith College School for Social Work students. The policies listed do not necessarily apply to other researchers.

NOTE: Library access, especially in metropolitan New York can be expensive, if not impossible. If needed, ask about a Metro referral card at one of these public libraries: New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queensborough Public Library, or one of the libraries in the Westchester Library System. The Metro referral card will offer you access to selected academic libraries and will bypass access fees. (Metro referral cards don't carry borrowing privileges, FYI.) It is best to look at the metro directory at www.metro.org and check to see if the cards are accepted at the library you wish to use--and even to phone ahead to the library to which you want access.
