WIRELESS ACCESS

Most areas in the Libraries (Neilson, Young, Hillyer, Josten, SSC/Archives) support wireless access with a Smith Novell username & password.

Wireless access is available for UMass Amherst and Hampshire students. See log in information below. However, this is not a curently supported service. ITS does not have the tools necesaary to troubleshoot problems from the Smith campus.

Neilson Library offers wireless printing to Windows laptop users on Smith's wireless network from anywhere on campus.

If your laptop already has a wireless card installed, you're all set. If not, you may purchase the appropriate wireless card at Smith's Computer Store (Stoddard Hall 22).

DATAPORTS

Patrons are welcome to bring laptops to the Libraries and use electrical outlets.
Laptops are also available for loan to Smith students, staff, and faculty at the Neilson Library Circulation desk.
Plug-in access to the Smith network and internet is available in several locations for Smith and Five College students. Look for the small black "igloos" or use the top port in the jack on the wall or in a carrel.
See below for log in information.

Dataport locations:
Neilson	Level 1 - around the perimeter
Hillyer	Level 1 - near the carrels around the perimeter Level 2 - near tables by the elevator
Young	All levels - top port in all carrels, and some spots on walls around the perimeter

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WIRELESS & DATAPORTS

Wireless Internet Access

PC users: Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon in the system tray located in the lower right side of your screen...
Mac users: Click on the AirPort icon in your menu bar...

Then [PC and Mac users]:

View Available Wireless Networks
Select your location from the list of available wireless networks
Open a browser window
On the Welcome to Smith's Secure Wireless Network screen, type in your username and password (see log in below), then click on Log In.
The Smith homepage will appear in your browser window.

If a Smith/UMass Amherst/Hampshire user is having problems connecting to wireless login page:

Accept the security certificate for the site. It is safe.
Try using a different browser.
Also, try typing in the address of the login page, which is http://131.229.65.198.

Dataport Internet Access (Laptop Plug-In)

Plug in your laptop using your ethernet cable
Open a browser window
On the Welcome to Smith's Secure Wireless Network screen, type in your username and password (see log in below), then click on Log In.
The Smith homepage will appear in your browser window.

Access the Smith Novell network (Wireless & Dataports)

PC users: Follow the instructions above, then:

Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop
Select Netware Login from the pop-up menu
Enter your Smith Novell username and password in the log in box

Mac users: Smith's Novell network does not currently support IPX or Appletalk. Use Fetch or another FTP application.

Affiliation	Log In (usernames & passwords)
Smith students, faculty, staff	Groupwise/Novell (email) username & password
Hampshire students, faculty, staff	Use HampNET email address as username ( i.e. username@hampshire.edu) and password
UMass Amherst students, faculty, staff	Use UMass Amherst NetID (i.e. netid@umass.edu) and password
Amherst & Mount Holyoke students, faculty, staff	Access is currently unavailable, but will be in the near future; in the meantime a Smith Novell account can be obtained from ITS if currently enrolled in a Smith course.

QUESTIONS?

Call the ITS User Support Center at (413) 585-4487. Network access for UMass and Hampshire users is not currently supported by ITS. The Help Desk does not have the tools necessary to troubleshoot problems from the Smith campus.
