Wireless Internet Access

The Smith College Libraries support wireless in Neilson Library (all floors, but access may vary by location), Hillyer Art Library, Josten Performing Arts Library, and Young Science Library.

Smith College Students, Faculty & Staff
Select SmithSecure (encrypted) wireless network from available options. Note: WiSmi is unencrypted and not recommended for normal use except while resolving connection problems with SmithSecure.
Enter the network security key: sophiasmith
On the Network Registration page:
Enter your Smith Network username and password. Read the Acceptable Network Usage policy, then click the I Accept button. On the next page, follow the instructions to complete the registration process Novell Network: Once connected to SmithSecure, Smith users can connect to the Novell network (PCs only, not currently available on Macs): Go to Control Panel Double-click on Network Connections icon In the Network Connections window, right-click on My Network Places and select Netware Login from the menu Enter your Novell username and password

Five College Students, Faculty, & Staff

Enter the network security key: sophiasmith
On the Network Registration page:
Enter your home institution full email address (e.g. username@amherst.edu) and password with the following exceptions: UMass students: Use your Net ID; remove the status and/or department code from your email address - e.g. username@umass.edu, not username@student.umass.edu Hampshire students: Use your real Hampshire email address, not an alias. Read the Acceptable Network Usage policy, then click the I Accept button. On the next page, follow the instructions to complete the registration process.

All Other Users
Select SmithGuest wireless network. Note: SmithGuest does not provide access to the Smith Network or to the Smith Libraries' subscription databases. It has limited bandwidth and is meant for temporary use.
On the Network Registration page:
Enter your preferred email address. Read the Acceptable Network Usage policy. Click the I Accept button. Follow the instructions on the next page to complete the registration process.

All Other Users

Select SmithGuest wireless network.

Note: SmithGuest does not provide access to the Smith Network or to the Smith Libraries' subscription databases. It has limited bandwidth and is meant for temporary use.

On the Network Registration page:

Enter your preferred email address.
Read the Acceptable Network Usage policy.
Click the I Accept button.
Follow the instructions on the next page to complete the registration process.

Wireless Printing

Neilson Library offers wireless printing to Windows laptop users on Smith's wireless network from anywhere on campus.

Dataports

Patrons are welcome to bring laptops to the Libraries and use electrical outlets.
Laptops are also available for loan to Smith students, staff, and faculty at the Neilson Library Circulation desk.
Plug-in access to the Smith network and internet is available in several locations for Smith and Five College students. Look for the small black "igloos" or use the top port in the jack on the wall or in a carrel.

Dataport Locations:
Neilson	Level 1 - around the perimeter
Hillyer	Level 1 - near the carrels around the perimeter Level 2 - near tables by the elevator
Young	All levels - top port in all carrels, and some spots on walls around the perimeter

Call the ITS User Support Center at (413) 585-4487. Wireless network access for Five College users is not currently supported by ITS. The Help Desk does not have the tools necessary to troubleshoot problems from the Smith campus.
