Five College Library Catalog: Requesting an Item

Use the Five College Library Catalog to Request Items when...

  • The item is checked out from Smith, or is available only through another Five College Library.
  • Smith's copy is billed, missing, or on hold for another library user.
  • The item is kept in an off-site storage facility.

Items will be delivered to your home library from one of the other Five Colleges

Connect to the Five College Library Catalog, and search for the item of interest. In the Full Record view or the Call Numbers and Availability view, click on Request Item.
When prompted, type the 15 digit barcode from the back of your Smith OneCard into the first box. Copy and paste it into the second box. Click GO.
Use My Account to check the status of your requests.

Items you’ve requested will be delivered to Neilson library within two or three business days. You’ll receive an email notice when they are available for pick up.

If all copies of the title you’ve requested are checked out, the library system will recall a copy from another patron. This process takes up to two weeks.
