College Library Catalog
Currently,
the Five College Library Catalog does not allow saving citations
for import into RefWorks. Until further notice, enter references
from the Five College Library Catalog manually using the following
instructions. Note: Pop-up blockers must be turned
off:
Option 1: These instructions do not work with items saved in your personal folder.
- Select the items you want to save by clicking the box.
-
Click the E-Mail/Save link near the top of the screen.
- Check to make sure that Select Predefined Format is set to Catalog.
- Check to make sure that Choose Character Set radio button is set to ASCII.
- Make sure to leave all fields blank and click Go.
- Click Save File to save your citations to your computer (the file should save as .sav).
- Log into RefWorks.
- Click the References menu and select Import.
- Click the Import Filter/Data Source menu and select Ex-Libris ALEPH.
- Click the Database menu and select University of Massachusetts Amherst.
- Click the radio button next to Import Data from the following Text File.
- Click the Browse button to navigate to and select your text file of saved records.
- Click the Import button.
Option 2: You can also look up your items in WorldCat and use the direct export
feature.

Accessible Archives
This database does not export citations in a format that is acceptable to import into RefWorks. It is recommended that you enter citations into RefWorks manually.
- Log into RefWorks.
- Choose References from the drop down menu tool bar and then choose Add New Reference.
- Choose the type of reference you are entering (e.g. journal, book, Web page, etc.) under Ref Type.
- Enter the required field information in the boxes and then click Save when finished.

Alexander Street Press
This database does not export citations in a format that is acceptable to import into RefWorks. It is recommended that you enter citations into RefWorks manually.
- Log into RefWorks.
- Choose References from the drop down menu tool bar and then choose Add New Reference.
- Choose the type of reference you are entering (e.g. journal, book, Web page, etc.) under Ref Type.
- Enter the required field information in the boxes and then click Save when finished.

ARTstor
- You can export selected image citations or an entire image group’s citation. To begin:
- Select individual images with a single click.
- In the ARTstor navigation bar, click Tools > Save citations for selected images. This option is also available from the right- (or Control-) click shortcut menu.
- OR Open an image group
- In the ARTstor navigation bar click Tools > Save citations for image group. This option is also available from the right- (or Control-) click shortcut men
- A confirmation message appears confirming the citations were saved.
- To review what you’ve selected, click Tools > View and export citations. A new browser window will open displaying your saved citations as well as image thumbnails.
- Select the images you would like to export as bibliographic citations by checking the box above each image.
- Click on the "Export citations into RefWorks" link located at the top of the "Your saved citations" page.
- You will be automatically forwarded to the RefWorks web site, where you can log onto your account. Once you log on, RefWorks will begin importing your ARTstor citations.

| Biological
Abstracts/ISI
- From
your search results, select the items you wish to save by clicking
in the checkbox to the left of the appropriate citations. Then
click Add to Marked List.

A new button labeled Marked List appears at the
top of the page once you have marked and submitted items. Click
this button.
- On
the Biological Abstracts Marked Records Output Options
Form, leave the bold fields checked. Check the abstract
or any other field if you want to include it in your RefWorks
database.

Click the Save to File button. You should leave
the option as Field Tagged.
- A
dialog box should appear, giving you the option to Save
to Disc. Click Okay. The resulting file
will appear on your desktop.
- Log
in to RefWorks.
-
Select References/Import from the toolbar.
-
Select ISI (Institute for Scientific Information)
as the data source and Biological Abstracts as
the database.
- Browse
to find the text file you saved to your computer and click on
Open.

Click Import.
-
Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.

- Select
citations.

In Select Display Format, select display:
marked citations.
- In
Select Output Format, select output:
marked Full Records.

Click on Export.

- After
performing search, click Abstract to view article
information.
- Under
Options, click Create Reference.
- Click
RefWorks Format, and save file.

RefWorks Tagged Format as the data source and
Tagged Format as the database.
- Browse
to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click
Import.
- Your
records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.

- While searching any of the Cambridge Collections Online databases, click on a record.
- From within the record scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Download Citation: as RIS.
- Save the file to the desktop on your computer.
- Login to RefWorks.
- In RefWorks click References and then select Import.
- From the Import Filter/Data Source drop down menu, select RIS Format.
- From the Database drop down menu select Cambridge Journals Online.
- Select Import Data from the following Text File and then browse to the file you saved from Cambridge Collections Online.
- Click Import.

Columbia Granger's World of Poetry

- Log into RefWorks.
- Choose References from the drop down menu tool bar and then choose Add New Reference.
- Choose the type of reference you are entering (e.g. journal, book, Web page, etc.) under Ref Type.

separate window will pop up.

into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in
the Last Imported folder.

- Log into RefWorks.
- Choose References from the drop down menu tool bar and then choose Add New Reference.
- Choose the type of reference you are entering (e.g. journal, book, Web page, etc.) under Ref Type.
- Enter the required field information in the boxes and then click Save when finished.

- Select
citations.
- Click
on the Add folder icon to the right of any results
you want to save.
- Click
on the Folder has items icon, in the blue tool bar at the top of the screen.
- Click
on the
Export icon from inside the folder.

Click the radio button in front of Direct Export to RefWorks
to initiate a direct export.
Note: Uncheck the Remove these items
from folder after saving feature, if you want items to
remain in the folder after performing the export function.
- Click
the Save button to begin the direct export.
- Log
into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in
the Last Imported folder.
Note: The Direct Import sometimes gets stuck and doesn't export anything. When this happens, you may need to import your citations as a text file into RefWorks using a filter, see below, OR you can close all your browsers and start over. This often gets it unstuck:
- Conduct a search.
- Click the Add icon to the right of any results you want to save.
- Click the Folder has items icon, in the blue tool bar at the top of the screen.
- Click the
Export icon from inside the folder.
- Click Generic bibliographic management software.
- Click on File and Save As. Save to Desktop.
- Under Save as type, select text file.
- Log into RefWorks.
- Click the Reference menu and select Import.
- Click the Import Filter/Data Source menu and select Smith College.
- Click the Database menu and select Academic Search Premier [EBSCOhost].
- Click the radio button next to Import Data from the following Text File.
- Click the Browse button to navigate to and select your text file of saved records from the Desktop.
- Click the Import button.

Scholar
- From
the Google Scholar search page, click on the Scholars Preferences
link.
- Scroll
down to the Bibliography Manager section.
- Select
Show Links to Import into and select RefWorks
from the drop-down.
- Click
Save Preferences.
- Conduct
your search in Google Scholar.
- For
each record, you will click on Import into RefWorks
link.
- Log
into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in
the Last Imported folder.

- Place a check mark next to items in the search results you wish to save and then click Add to Marked List.
- When searching is complete, click on View Marked List.
- From the Marked List window, select Download Records.
- Once the Download the Marked List window appears, click Export to RefWorks link.

Tools, click Bookmarking Options, then click
Marked List.

Using your Browser's Save As function, navigate
to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file.

type. Save the file to a location you will remember (note:
will default to exportdata folder, not desktop!)
