Frequently Asked Questions about Find e-Journals

What journals are included in the A-Z list?
  • Only journals for which Smith has access to at least some full text online.
  • Use the Journal Locator to search all of Smith's holdings for both online and print.
What journals are not included in the A-Z list?
  • Journals for which Smith owns only the print (paper) format, microfilm, and other non-electronic formats
  • Use the Journal Locator to search all of Smith's holdings for both online and print.
How do I find a specific journal?
  • Use the Journal Locator to find all of Smith's holdings (both online and print) for a specific journal.
How do I find e-journals by subject?
  • Category tab - Select a Category (discipline) and SubCategory (specific subject). You may choose multiple categories using <ctrl> <click>.
  • For better results, go to the Find Articles page for a variety of databases and search options.
How do I see what's in a particular e-journal package?
  • Use the Locate tab to select a publisher or package name (e.g. Elsevier Science Direct, JSTOR, Oxford University Press, etc.). If Smith subscribes only to selected titles from a publisher, those are the e-journals you'll see listed.
Why do I see "For earlier/later years, see journal history" for some titles and not others? What will I see when I click on there?

This link apears when there are one or more related titles. Click on the link and scroll down in the pop-up window to the Journal History section. Related titles include:

  • Earlier/Later titles (title changes) - This can be helpful when you remember the older name for a journal, but not the current one (or vice versa). For example:
    • The Atlantic Monthly, published 1993+, was called The Atlantic from 1981-1992, and prior to that was called The Atlantic Monthly. The related title information allows you to access these earlier/later titles if available online.
  • Supplements - For example, the related title information for The Atlantic notes that is has a supplement called Atlantic Presents America's Museums. Conversely, if you look at the related title information for Atlantic Presents America's Museums, it notes that it is a supplement to The Atlantic.
  • Related editions - For example, for Newsweek, it lists Newsweek's International Edition, Newsweek en español, etc.

Note: The pop-up window containing the Journal History section is the same as the one that appears when you click on info (see next section for more detail).

What will I see when I click on info ?
  • Abbrev - The common abbreviations for the journal title. For example, for Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the abbreviation is J PERS SOC PSYCHOL.
  • Availability - A list of the databases that offer full text for the title.
  • Categories - A list of the categories (disciplines) and subcategories (specific subjects) that list this journal under the Category tab (useful when you want to know the names of other similar journals that are available full text).
  • Journal history - See preceding question.
