Includes 45,000 articles on every aspect of the visual arts from prehistory
to the present day and links to 130,000 images and 1,000 Web sites. The
dictionary does not have a comprehensive survey article about sculpture
but addresses sculpture in sections of more general articles about the
arts of civilizations, regions, peoples, and countries; artistic movements
and styles; historical periods; sculpture materials and techniques. The
dictionary also includes excellent articles on more than 20,000 individual
artists. Entries for individuals include biographical, critical, and contextual
information. Each article is supplemented by a bibliography of major primary
and secondary sources.
