A Conference Celebrating 65 Years of Collecting
Women's History at Smith College

Come celebrate the 65th birthday of the Sophia Smith Collection, the oldest archive devoted to the study of women's history in the United States. Founded in 1942 by Margaret Storrs Grierson, the SSC has grown to 575 collections (9,000 feet) of primary source material. The Voices of Feminism Oral History Project and the collections this initiative inspired focus on the activism of previously under-documented ethnic groups, lesbian activism and culture, and activist women of low-income. These new research resources promise to broaden the scope of U.S. women's history and permit scholarship to become more inclusive and therefore more accurate. In addition to the Voices of Feminism Oral History Project, this conference will highlight the recently processed YWCA Records, the Living U.S. Women's History Oral History Project, the Population and Reproductive Health Oral History Project, and the newly received Women's Music Archives.
