Includes chapters about specific archaeologists and their findings, attitudes and cultural context (including Stephens and Catherwood). Tone is neither overly scholarly or overly romantic, with a general bias in favor of the rights of indigenous peoples. A fair number of black-white illustrations, including many of Catherwood’s works. [Plates 6, 16]

Since this is a translation from German, many of the referenced sources are not English. [Plate 7 top, 7 bottom]
