The Smith College Archives shares facilities with the Sophia Smith Collection (Smith's women's history manuscript collection) on level A of Alumnae Gymnasium which is adjacent and connected to Neilson Library. There is an entrance on the ground floor (level C) of Alumnae Gym, at the North end of the building. You can also enter through the main entrance of Neilson Library, which is wheelchair accessible. Take the stairs or elevator down one flight to level A, turn left and follow signs to the south end of the building, and take the glass walkway across to the Alumnae Gym. See Directions & Parking for more information.
The Smith College Archives is open to all individuals with an interest in understanding the varied and changing aspects of Smith history. Individuals and groups are welcome to use the materials held in its collection. Materials are non-circulating and must be used in the Archives Reading Room. A brief registration process, including photo identification is required of all researchers. Some records in the College Archives have restrictions placed on them for various reasons that include privacy, state and federal regulations, and issues of fragility and preservation. These restrictions are noted in the various access tools available to researchers. Some materials are located off-site and require a 48 hour notice for retrieval. Some audiovisual materials may require reproduction before viewing/listening and may cause a delay in your research.
