New Reading Room Dedication Ceremony

President Carol T. Christ will dedicate the new Friends of the Libraries Reading Room at 4 pm, followed by Romance Literature: Love it or Leave it.

The room is named for the Friends of the Smith College Libraries in recognition of their role in the realization of this renovation. Located at the entrance to the library, the new reading room is also a reminder of the long history of support provided since the FSCL was founded in 1942.

Work began last May with the relocation of the circulation staff office and workroom to the interior of the building. The room was then completely renovated and laid out as a reading room - as it was in 1910. The renovation is part of a master plan to revitalize study spaces in the library. Libraries staff members held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, November 29, 2010, with Esther B. Wiley Professor of Government Susan Bourque doing the honors.
The dedication ceremony, led by President Carol T. Christ, will be followed by a panel discussion, Romance Literature: Love it or Leave it, at 4:30 p.m. in the Neilson Library Browsing Room. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Smith Colleges Libraries.
