Catherine Kohler Riessman, Brown Clinical Research Institute Lecturer
The Pleasure of the Text: Seduction, Resistance and Narrative Inquiry, by Catherine Kohler Riessman, Brown Clinical Research Institute Lecturer. The interview has been conceptualized over time by social scientists as a data gathering method, as a conversation and as a relational encounter. Using a case study composed from a research interview, the presenter will explore visceral elements that reach beyond each of these ways of thinking about interviews. A man’s personal narrative and Dr. Riessman’s re-analysis of the text over time and the shifting contexts of its production suggest dimensions that can vitalize the narrative analysis of lives.
