The joint reading is at 7:30 pm in Stoddard Auditorium. Morrill will also give a craft lecture on Thurs., Mar.3, at 7:30 pm in the Poetry Center.

The poetry reading will be followed by a book sale and signing. Both events are free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible.

Morrill will spend a week in residency at Smith, offering workshops and student conferences. His visit to the Pioneer Valley is made possible by a generous gift from Smith alumna Tammis Day.

Michael Klein is an award-winning poet, memoirist and anthologist. His publications include the anthology Poets for Life: 76 Poets Respond to AIDS (1989), which received a Lambda Literary Award, In The Company of My Solitude (1995) and Things Shaped in Passing (1997). Most recently, he's received significant praise for his second collection of poems, then, we were still living (2010). In his memoir Track Conditions, he reflects on his alcoholism, childhood abuse, relationships, and his experience as a professional groom for a Kentucky Derby-winning horse. The End of Being Known (2009), explores sex, desire, love, friendship and incest.

Impetuous Sleeper, by Donald Morrill, c2009.

 

Donald Morrill made his debut in 1998, first with a collection of essays called A Stranger's Neighborhood and, later that year, with At the Bottom of the Sky, a book of poems. He has since continued to prove his versatility with three non-fiction books, as well as a second book of poems, With Your Back to Half the Day (2005). Morrill's most recent publication, Impetuous Sleeper (2009), is a collection of essays regarding wakefulness.
