This image shows a woman forming a sheet of paper by dipping a mold, or screen, into a vat of paper pulp. It is from Tachibana Minko’s Saiga Shokunin Burui (published 1916-1917), a craftsmen album containing images and descriptions of various crafts.
This is one of a group of Japanese picture books on display, a gift of the estate of George Brower Cash to the Mortimer Rare Book Room.
Visit the Mortimer Rare Book Room's web page on exhibitions for details.
