We’re Active On Behalf Of The Libraries.
We provide the Smith College Libraries with consistent and flexible income. This takes a variety of forms: membership dues and annual gifts; donations to endowed and special funds; and contributions of books, CDs and other materials. Our Executive Committee ensures that Friends' income provides multi-faceted support for the libraries. What's more, we sponsor special events and initiate special projects. To keep people informed of events, activities, and trends in library use, collections and management, we publish a newsletter in print and online versions.
Our Current Project: The Reading Room Initiative.
The Friends have recently championed the transformation of the circulation workroom in Neilson Library into a new Reading Room located across the Morgan Gallery from the Browsing Room. To date, the Friends have raised over $100,000 towards this project. This will provide a new elegant space at the entrance to the library—a welcoming "drop-in" place to go between classes.
