The
Smith College summer reading selection for 2008 is the 2007 Pulitzer
Prize winning collection of poetry, Native Guard, by
Natasha Trethewey. The book is a study of family, memory, and
race through the vehicle of the Native Guard - one of the first
black regiments in the South during the Civil War.
