The
Smith College summer reading selection for 2006 is Mountains Beyond
Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World,
by Tracy Kidder. This true story focuses on Dr. Paul Farmer, Harvard professor
and renowned infectious-disease specialist, who was brought up in unusual
and impoverished circumstances, found his life's calling in medical school,
and went on to diagnose and cure infectious diseases in some of the poorest
areas of the world. Tracy Kidder will visit campus to discuss his work
on September 5.
