Poet and Memoirist Mark Doty Visited March 2008

The award winning writer gave a poetry reading in Stoddard Hall, and a lecture on memoir in Seelye Hall.

4 pm Lecture on Memoir (followed by reception)- Seelye Hall 201

The poetry reading is sponsored by the Poetry Center and the Program for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College. The lecture on memoir is sponsored by the Program for the Study of Women & Gender, American Studies, and the Lecture Committee. Both events are free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible.

Fire to Fire: New and Selected Poems,
by Mark Doty

Doty is the author of eight volumes of poetry, including the recently released Fire to Fire: New & Selected Poems. Doty has won warm acclaim for each of his collections, Turtle, Swan, Bethlehem in Broad Daylight, My Alexandria, Atlantis, Sweet Machine, Source, and School of the Arts.

The recipient of many awards and prizes, Doty has also published four highly-regarded books of nonfiction and memoir including Heaven's Coast: A Memoir, Firebird: A Memoir, Still Life With Oysters and Lemon: On Objects and Intimacy, and most recently Dog Years: A Memoir.
