Tony Hoagland's week-long residency at Smith is made possible by a special alumnae gift. Other activities include a combination craft class/workshop, open to the Smith community, which will be held Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 7, from 4-5:30 pm in the Poetry Center. (The usual Q&A session with the poet will take place as part of these afternoon sessions.) For more information, please consult the Smith College Poetry Center.

Tony Hoagland's poems expose the wonders and blunders of American society and delves head-on into the throes of adolescence, male culture, and knowledge of mortality.

Hoagland is author of three collections of poems, What Narcissism Means to Me, Donkey Gospel (winner of the James Laughlin Award)and Sweet Ruin (winner of the Brittingham Prize), as well as a book of brilliant essays, Real Sofistikashun, and, most recently, Hard Rain, a chapbook.
