Director of Discovery & Access

Smith College seeks a dynamic and innovative Director to lead its newly formed Discovery & Access Group. Serving on the Library Leadership Team, the Director will collaborate with colleagues to realize the mission and vision of the Libraries. The Director will contribute to library-wide strategic planning, policy development, assessment and resource management. The Director will demonstrate leadership in and commitment to the concepts and practices of the learning organization throughout the libraries. As leader of the Discovery & Access group, the Director will guide, support and advance all functions of technical and access services through strategic planning, user-centered services, best practices, and robust technologies. The Director will manage a $3.4 million acquisitions budget. The Director will promote open and active communication across the group and foster effective collaborations in the libraries, the college and the Five Colleges. The Director will also engage directly with students and faculty to support research, teaching and learning.

Director of Special Collections - Closed

Smith College invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Special Collections. The Director will provide energetic leadership, creative vision, and strong management to the extraordinary Special Collections Group: the Sophia Smith Collection, the College Archives and the Mortimer Rare Book Room. The Director leads, manages and develops services and collections that document the history of women, the college and the book. The Director develops and implements strategic digital initiatives to make unique resources widely available. As a member of the Faculty, the Director works closely with faculty and instructional librarians to teach research methods for and provide hands-on experience with primary sources. The Director extends and expands Special Collections resource base through alumni and donor cultivation and external funding. The Director collaborates with library leadership and staff to realize the vision and mission of the Libraries. As leader of the Special Collections Group the Director will lead, guide and support all aspects of the Group’s services and operations. The Director will directly oversee operations of the Sophia Smith Collection and the College Archives; the Rare Book Room will report to the Director.
