2006 Depository Project

In order to free up library shelf space on campus and to take advantage of Mellon Foundation grant funding the Libraries are making a concerted effort to identify older, little used journal titles that can be transferred to the Five College Depository. For information about this project, please see Chris Loring’s letter to Department Chairs, Program Directors and faculty library liaisons dated April 3, 2006.

Each department and program has been sent a list of titles that their library liaisons believe should be considered for transfer to the Five College Depository. By June 1, 2006 Departments and Programs should inform their library liaison of any titles that they believe should not be transferred. Procedures for this review have been provided to the departments and programs and are listed below.

Recognizing that faculty will have an interest in seeing all the titles that we are putting forward as possible candidates for transfer, we are providing the following lists:

2006 Depository Review Procedures

The Faculty Library Committee has worked with the Libraries to establish the following approach to this review:

  1. Each department/program will receive a list of journals identified by their library liaison as candidates to be considered for transfer.
  2. Each department and program will share the list with the faculty in the department/program.
  3. Each department/program will develop a process for reviewing the list and reaching agreement on any titles that should not be transferred to the Depository.
  4. Each department/program will review their appropriate division list of titles available on the Libraries’ web site (see lists above). Add any titles of interest to your departmental list for consideration.
  5. By June 1, 2006, send your librarian liaison a list of titles your department wishes to retain on campus, with a brief justification for each one. If you do not wish to recommend any exceptions to the list, please let your liaison know.
  6. Please direct any questions about this process to your librarian liaison.
