Second-Year Program
2013 Program
January 7–18, 2012
About the Program
In the second year of the program, students will investigate more deeply their own personal leadership style, developing their abilities in group work. Students will engage with a local nonprofit agency to form a strategic development plan, using their skills in writing, reflection and presentation.
An intense learning curve is typical of the Lewis Leadership Program experience. The program, which began 21 years ago, has teamed students with the Academy of Music, Friends of Children and Northampton Center for the Arts and other organizations.
Between the two interterm sessions, participants are encouraged to apply what they learn in summer internships. LLP participants have held internships at the National Institutes of Health and the White House, as well as in homeless shelters, art museums and newspapers.
Best of all, the combination of training in practical leadership skills and contributing to the local community left these students with a feeling that their work had made an important difference.
