CALL FOR FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS: SHORT-TERM PROJECTS
2008-2009


Dear Colleagues,

The Kahn Liberal Arts Institute is pleased to announce three short-term projects to be held this semester and early next semester.

Translating, Preserving and Promoting Minority Languages is being organized by Fernando Armstrong-Fumero (Anthropology) and will include four workshop sessions and a public symposium. Click here to read a description of this project.
The application deadline is Friday, September 19, 2008.

The Aesthetics of Data and Its Analysis, a project organized by Dominique Thiebaut (Computer Science), will focus on the new challenges of data analysis and visualization to discover, develop and refine categories of visual thinking, and to examine the processes involved. The application deadline is Friday, September 26, 2008.

How Useful is the Science of Learning? will meet in January 2009 to explore the question of how and whether the learning sciences can influence and deepen college teaching.  The project is being organized by Al Rudnitsky (Education and Child Study) and Glenn Ellis (Engineering). The application deadline is Friday, November 7, 2008.

Each of these projects can accept up to ten Smith College faculty Fellows.  Each participating Fellow will receive a stipend of $500.00.
