What is known as the Western Wall or the "Wailing Wall" is a portion of the outer western wall of the Herodian Temple; it is the traditional Jewish place of prayer. At present, the Western Wall measures c. 50 m. wide and c. 20 m high; the original ground level of this portion of the Herodian Temple, however, is several meters below present ground level.

Alley in Vilna (Vilnius, Lithuania); prior to the Second World War, a major Eastern European center of Jewish religious high culture, political activism, and Yiddish culture. Known to Jews throughout the world as Yerushalyim de Lite (The Jerusalem of Lithuania) it is today the site of the Vilnius Yiddish Institute, where students from overseas can learn Yiddish during the summer

SUMMER STUDY
Students who wish to take summer courses abroad or domestically should follow the procedures for summer school credit, available in the Class Deans Office. The Class Deans Office provides limited funding for summer study (usually no more than $500) based on a competitive application process.

Financial aid may be available for study and advanced research in Israel via the Sylvia Berger '24 Fund. Additionally, funds for language study in Israel may be available through the Wilson Fund of the Program in Middle East Studies.

Financial aid for summer study abroad may be available via International Study Grants (Study Abroad Office).

There is very little financial aid available for students studying at domestic (US) programs. Students planning to attend a program at an American institution should apply for financial aid at that institution and for assistance through the Class Deans Office.
