Changing Your Novell Network Password on a Macintosh

Your Novell network password is the one you enter at the login box that appears when you first start your computer. Staff members typically log on to the ADMIN1, ADMIN2, or ADMIN3 server. Faculty members typically log on to the HUMARTS, SOSCI, or SCIENCE server. Students log on to one of the four student servers: STUDENT1, STUDENT2, STUDENT3, or STUDENT4.

Mac OSX

  1. Select Connect to Server from the Go Menu.

  2. Locate your server from the Favorite Server List then click Connect.

  3. Type your usename in the Name area.

  4. Click the Options button then click the Change Password button.

  5. Confirm the Change Password for "username in server".  If correct continue on to step 6, otherwise cancel twice and reselect the server and type retype your username.
  6. Enter your Old Password, New Password and Confirm Password areas.  Click OK when complete.

NoteThe next time you log on, use your new password.

Mac OS 9

  1. Log on to the server that you normally use.

  2. From the Apple menu, select the Chooser.

  3. In the Chooser, click first on Appleshare, then on the Appletalk zone and server that you are using. Then choose OK.

For example, if you have logged into the STUDENT1 server, click on Appleshare, then on the Appletalk zone Smith.Macs, then on the file server STUDENT1.

  4. A dialog box appears reminding you that you are already logged in.Click on the Set Password button in the dialog box.

  5. In the next dialog box, first type your old password (the one you used to login to the network for this session), then press Tab and type your new password. When you are done, click OK. (Your password does not appear on the screen.)

  6. A confirmation box appears, asking for verification. Retype your new password exactly as you entered it the first time, then click OK.

If the network does not accept your new password, review the guidelines for choosing safe and sexy passwords.
