Using an iPhone or iPod Touch at Smith

Most of the setup required for you iPhone or iPod Touch will happen independently of the Smith Network, below you will find some Smith-specific instructions and tips.

Smith Wi-Fi
Wireless at Smith in public buildings is monitored by Blue Socket. When you are on campus and connect to the wireless, you will be redirected to the Blue Socket login page. If you are not automatically redirected, you can bookmark a direct link to the BlueSocket page: http://131.229.65.198 Use your Novell username and password to login.

Wireless in the houses is monitored by Clean Access Agent and also requires you to login using your Novell username and password.

To connect to a Wireless network on an iPhone or iPod Touch:

  1. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi.

  2. (If Wi-Fi is off, you will need to turn it on.)

  3. Wait a moment as iPhone detects networks in range, then choose a network.

  4. If you are connecting to a Smith wireless network, open Safari.

  5. When you see the "The certificate for this website is invalid. Would you like to connect to the website anyway?" tap Continue.

  6. Login to BlueSocket or Clean Access using your Novell username and password.

iCal
Once you've setup your GroupWise email, you can import your GroupWise appointments into iCal.

You will not be able to add appointments to GroupWise from your iPhone using Calendar. But you can import existing GroupWise appointments into iCal and sync your iPhone calendar with iCal on your Mac. With this setup, the calendar on your iPhone and on your Mac will be the same as long as you sync them.

*If you have trouble syncing your calendar, check that all of your events have an end date and a title and that none of your titles include foreign characters. This will prevent your calendar from syncing properly.
