EXPORT OR IMPORT BROWSER BOOKMARKS

The directions below explain how to save your browser bookmarks to your H: drive (or another location), so you can copy them to a different computer later.

Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Safari
Google Chrome



INTERNET EXPLORER

Export (save) bookmarks

  1. Go to File/Import and Export, click Export to file, click Next.
  2. Select Favorites and click Next.
  3. Favorites should be highlighted click Next.
  4. Where do you want to export your favorites? Select a location.
  5. Click Export.


Import (copy) bookmarks to a different computer

Note: Restoring bookmarks from a backup will overwrite your current set of bookmarks.

  1. Go to File, Import and Export, select Import from file, click Next.
  2. Select Favorites and click Next.
  3. Browse to Where your import favorites file is located.
  4. Favorites should already be selected, click Next.
  5. Click Import.

MOZILLA FIREFOX

Export (save) bookmarks

  1. Click Bookmarks / Show All Bookmarks.
  2. In the Library window, click the Import and Backup button, then select Backup.
  3. Choose a location to Save file. (the name will be bookmarks-date.json)
  4. Click Save the bookmark file


Import (copy) bookmarks to a different computer

Note: Restoring bookmarks from a backup will overwrite your current set of bookmarks.

  1. Click Bookmarks / Show All Bookmarks.
  2. In the Library window, click Import and Backup button, then select Restore.
  3. Click Choose File, select the backup file from where it was saved.
  4. After choosing your backup file, your bookmarks will be restored.

SAFARI

Export (save) bookmarks

  1. Click the File then Export Bookmarks.
  2. Save As name will be Safari Bookmarks.html, you select where. (Be sure to note the location so you can retrieve the file later.)
  3. Click Save.


Import (copy) bookmarks to a different computer

  1. Click File then Import Bookmarks.
  2. In the Import Bookmarks window, select Bookmarks HTML file now go to the location where you saved your bookmarks. Select the Safari Bookmarks.html file, and choose Import.

GOOGLE CHROME

Note: we suggest you rename the saved file as Chrome uses the same default file name as Firefox. So if you are backing up more than one browsers bookmarks you will know the difference.

Export (save) bookmarks

  1. In the Chrome browser window, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu
  2. Select Bookmarks, then Bookmark manager.
  3. Click the Organize dropdown then select Export bookmarks to HTML file.
  4. Rename the file to chromebookmarks.html then select where you wish to save the file.
  5. Click Save, then close the Bookmarks Manager.


Import (copy) bookmarks on a different computer

  1. In the Chrome browser window, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu
  2. Select Bookmarks, then Bookmark manager.
  3. Click the Organize dropdown then select Import bookmarks from HTML file.
  4. Locate the chromebookmarks.html file that you saved.
  5. Click Open.
