WELCOME

Welcome to TARA, the Smith College Technology And Resource Adviser. TARA is an on-line collection of software instructions, user guides, and tip sheets created by the ITS staff for the Smith community.

Faculty & Staff: Getting a new Smith computer? Click here for important information.

SSW Students and Faculty: If you are living in Smith residence house this summer, be sure to read the SSW Summer 2008 Computing News for information about the steps required to connect your computer to the Smith Residence Network.

Graduating and Returning Students: Whether you're graduating this spring or returning next fall, be sure to read the Summer 2008 Computing News before you leave campus.

New ITS blogs: Visit the MacUser and WinBlog blogs for news and alerts tailored for Mac and Windows users at Smith.  You can add your own comments and questions, and sign up to receive updates automatically by email or RSS feed. We look forward to hearing from you!

Smith web servers now accept only *secure* FTP connections. If you use Dreamweaver, Contribute, or any non-secure FTP program to transfer files between your computer and the server, click here for instructions on switching to Secure FTP.

Office 2007 users: If you are sending a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file to someone who does not have Office 2007, be sure to save your file in a format your recipient can open. Click here for instructions.

Non-Office 2007
users: If you cannot open a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file sent by an Office 2007 user, click below for instructions on installing a program that can convert the file to a format your computer can read.
