SIMPLIFY YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS
Please note that Smith's primary email identity is now @smith.edu rather than @email.smith.edu.
The college has switched to the simpler format to save keystrokes, streamline email processing, and give Smith addresses the same format used by most other academic institutions.
What will the change mean for me?
- First of all, don't worry. All messages sent to @email.smith.edu addresses will continue to be delivered as usual for the foreseeable future. You can take your time asking people to start using your @smith.edu address.
- On the MessageScreen login page, if you aren't already using the @smith.edu form of your email address to check your quarantined messages, start using that one.
- If you subscribe to any email lists:
Updating your sending email address is necessary only if you like to post messages to a subscriber-only list, not just read what others have posted.
Many lists allow subscribers to update their email address on-line, but some may not recognize you as a valid list member since your background email address has changed.
If any of your list services stop working properly, contact the User Support Center at x4487. We can temporarily re-enable your @email.smith.edu address long enough for you to unsubscribe to the list under your old address.
We can then switch you back to the standard address, so you can re-subscribe with your new @smith.edu address.
Enjoy your new, simpler email address!
