ABOUT ITS

TELEPHONES

The college's telephone system is maintained and supported by Information Technology Services, with telephone and voicemail support provided by the IT Service Center.

If your telephone is broken, if you need help using voicemail, if you need to add, remove, or move a phone, or if you need to change your phone service, call the IT Service Center at x4487. Please note that modems, fax machines, and answering machines cannot be connected to Smith's digital phone system.

Information about telephone and voicemail features is available on TARA, the ITS technical documention website. Additional hardcopy documentation can be obtained from the IT Service Center in Stoddard 203.

Student Telephone Services

Hall phones are provided in student resident houses and can be used for emergency, on campus, local and toll free calling.  Students who require a land line phone will need to provide their own residential style corded phone and request activation of their telephone jack by emailing the IT Service Center at 4ITS@smith.edu.  As with the college provided phones these will be limited to emergency, on campus, local and toll free calling.

Conference Calling on Faculty & Staff Telephones

Smith College campus phones can place conference calls for up to 6 participants. For instructions, see Setting Up a Conference Call on page 12 of this document: https://www.smith.edu/tara/telephones/facstaffguide.pdf

Ready Bridge Conference Calling Service for Faculty & Staff

Faculty and staff can also access to an external conference bridge service called Ready Bridge. Contact the IT Service Center 413-585-4487 or email 4its@smith.edu to request an account.  You will be sent a confirmation email with your account information, and soon after a wallet card with pertinent information for easy access when setting up a call.

Once the account is set up, no reservations are required to use the service. Entering the moderator pass code automatically establishes a conference call, and callers entering the associated participant pass code are automatically added to the call.

There is no charge for a conference bridge account; you are charged only for usage. All charges are billed to the organization number you provide at the time you establish your account. The total cost of a conference call is calculated as follows:

(Conference call rate $0.17) x (Duration of call in minutes) x (Number of connections)

International Participants: Participants from outside the US can access the service by calling the alternate access number (1-303-248-9662) rather than the toll-free 800 number. If toll-free international access is required, contact Mary Clayton at x2082 or Customer Service at 800-730-2183 for information and rates.
