SOFTWARE TRAINING

Information Technology Services periodically offers hands-on workshops for students, staff, and faculty on all Smith's standard software applications, including office and database software, multimedia and web development tools, ad hoc reporting tools, Banner modules, and Internet research.

For information about workshops topics, schedules, and registration, see the Training page on TARA, the ITS documentation website: www.smith.edu/its/tara/training/

Computing Orientation for Faculty and Staff

Once a month, Information Technology Services participates in Human Resources' New Employee Orientation by giving a brief overview of the department's services and resources.

On request, we also provide computing orientation for new employees, as well as staff or faculty member who receive a new desktop computer or significantly different hardware or software. For more information, contact the Technology Training Coordinator.

On-Line Training

ITS has a limited number of licenses available for students, staff, and faculty who wish to enroll in on-line training courses provided by Element K. Please note that not all Element K courses are covered by the basic license; certain advanced courses may require a department charge number.  For more information, please send your request to techtrain@email.smith.edu.

Documentation

To supplement our training programs, ITS provides customized documentation as well as third-party user manuals for selected software. Most documentation is available on-line on the TARA documentation website. Printed handouts of some procedures may also be available in the Resource Centers and the User Support Center.

ITS can supply some documentation directly to administrative offices. Some reference manuals are also available for loan from the reserve desk at Neilson Library. For more information, contact the User Support Center by email or by calling ext. 4487.

Note for Faculty

Smith College is a member of the New England Regional Computing (NERCOMP) and Educom Conferences, two professional organizations that offer regional and national programs for faculty development.
