Staff and faculty who are traveling on college business or have certain other off-campus computing needs can borrow a laptop computer or digital projector from ITS.

Our Windows and Macintosh laptops are equipped with standard office software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as Novell GroupWise. Most provide Internet access via a built-in modem.

Laptops and projectors are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis, so please let us know your requirements as far in advance as possible.

Short-term Laptop Loans for Staff and Faculty

The short-term laptop loan program is intended for staff and faculty who need a computer for a professional conference or for a brief period of off-campus work.

To reserve a laptop for up to three weeks, call the User Support Center at extension 4487 or send email to 4its@email.smith.edu. Please make your reservation well in advance to ensure that a suitable laptop will be available.

If you email your reservation request, please specify:

Pickup and return are in the User Support Center in Stoddard 23. You will be asked to sign a loan agreement that spells out the terms of the loan. If someone else picks up the machine for you, we will send along the agreement form, which should be signed, dated, and mailed back to the User Support Center, Stoddard 23. You must return the laptop at the end of the loan period.

Short-term Digital Projector Loans for Staff and Faculty

Staff and faculty who are traveling or have certain other off-campus computing needs can borrow a digital projector that will work with either a Windows or Macintosh computer.

To reserve a projector, call the User Support Center at extension 4487 or send email to 4its@email.smith.edu. Please make your reservation well in advance to ensure that a projector will be available.

If you need a projector for classroom use, please contact Media Services at extension 2954.

Sabbatical Laptop Loans for Faculty

The Sabbatical Laptop Loan Program assists tenure-track faculty who require computer equipment during their sabbatical leave.

The program allows you to borrow a Windows or Macintosh laptop computer for up to one year during your sabbatical leave.

The Committee on Faculty Compensation and Development (CFCD) evaluates faculty requests for eligibility. To submit a request for a sabbatical laptop loan, contact the Dean for Academic Development. Your application is due May 1 preceding a sabbatical leave.
