Backing
up your data is essential
to your peace of mind and
to the smooth running of
the college.
If you routinely save files to your local hard drive (C:), be sure to also
keep a copy of all important files on your personal network drive (H:) or your
department's shared drive (P:). The files on Smith's networked drives are backed
up nightly, so if you should accidentally delete a file or a file becomes corrupted,
the file can be restored from backup. And if your computer's hard drive should
ever fail, your files will still be safe.
For instructions on using your network drive or other devices to back up your
files, see: http://www.smith.edu/its/tara/smith_network/backup_files.html
Note: If
your department uses specialized
software, please be sure
to send the original disks
or CD-ROMs to Desktop Technology
Services in Stoddard Annex
for off-site
storage.
