By Airplane

Bradley International Airport (Hartford)

The best way to arrive at Smith is to book a flight to Bradley International Airport (BDL/Hartford), which is located near Hartford, Connecticut (70km/40 miles from Smith).

You will most likely first arrive to the United States at a major city airport and then take a connecting flight to Bradley Airport. When you arrive at Bradley Airport, proceed to the baggage area at the lower level. Take a bus to Springfield, Massachusetts and then transfer to Northampton. The total cost from Bradley to Northampton is approximately $25, and will take about 1.5 hours. During the day, buses run frequently; at night, service is less frequent. Taxi service from Bradley to Smith College costs approximately $65, at night it costs approximately $95. There is also a very reliable van service, Valley Transporter.

Logan International Airport (Boston)

If you fly to Boston's Logan International Airport (BOS/Boston Logan) (about 160km/100 miles from Northampton), taxis and buses leave from the lower level of each terminal.

Buses go to South Station in Boston, where you can take a bus to Northampton, via Springfield. The trip will take about 3.5 hours and cost approximately $45. The last bus from Boston to Northampton is at 5:15 p.m. Taxi service from Logan airport to Northampton costs approximately $130.

JFK/New York

If you arrive in New York-John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK/New York) and you are unable to get a connecting flight to BDL/Hartford, you may inquire about Connecticut Limousine (1-800-472-5466), located at the ground transportation level at the baggage claim area of the terminal. Tickets costs approximately $85 and it will take you to the Union Station in Hartford, Connecticut. Then you will take a bus to Springfield, Massachusetts and finally to Northampton. Hartford to Northampton costs approximately $30. Total travel time from JFK/New York to Smith College will be about five hours.

By Bus

Most major bus companies travel to the main bus terminal in Springfield, Massachusetts and require a simple transfer to a bus for Northampton. Ask about the bus route when you buy your ticket. Buses run hourly from Springfield to Northampton. The ride takes about 30 minutes and costs approximately $10. The Northampton bus station is located three blocks from the edge of Smith campus and is a short walk.

By Car

If you are being driven to Smith by a relative or a friend, you can reach Northampton from Interstate I-91. If you are coming from the Massachusetts Turnpike (Mass Pike), you should take exit 4 (West Springfield) onto I-91 North. Those traveling from the New York City area can take Interstate 95 East to I-91 North just after New Haven, Connecticut. Drive 1.5 hours and take exit 18 at Northampton. Follow Route 5 North into the center of town and turn left onto Route 9 West (Main Street). Follow Route 9 to the third set of traffic lights. Smith College will be in front of you. Continue to the right and after the second set of light, turn right on Prospect Street. Lamont House (ISP) is the second house on the right.
